Meanwhile, her partner may wait months before anyone suggests he be evaluated at all.

This is not simply an anecdotal observation. It reflects a measurable gap in how reproductive medicine has historically been practiced and communicated. And for the couples caught in that gap, the consequences can be significant: delayed diagnoses, unnecessary interventions, emotional strain, and wasted time.

The data has been clear for decades. Male factor infertility—whether as a sole cause or a contributing factor—is implicated in approximately 40 to 50 percent of infertility cases among American couples. Encouraging male partners to pursue evaluation early—ideally at the same time the female partner begins her workup—is not about assigning blame. It is about ensuring that the full picture is visible before decisions are made.
